In the church I grew up in, there was an older lady, probably the oldest lady in the church at that time. We all called her Granny Vernon. She lived long enough to see her great grandchildren.
Granny Vernon was known throughout the church for her willingness to pray. She was the epitome of Prayer Warrior. If you asked her to pray for anything, consider it done. In fact, we would joke that she was so well known to God through her prayers that it seemed she had a direct connection and He would give her what she prayed for every time. She was a great example to all of us.
You see, what Granny Vernon knew was that prayer is a powerful thing. When we pray, we are communicating to the Almighty God who created the heavens and the earth. We are able to approach the very throne of God and have His ear.
Picture if you will a castle form the Medieval time period. The king is on his throne and the room filled with his court. Everyone talking and the noise filling the spacious hall. In the back of the room, you walk through the door and simply ask, “Father, I need to speak to you.” At those words the king raises his scepter and says, “Quiet, my child speaks.”
This is what I imagine when we pray. God wants to hear from us. He longs to hear from his children.
One of the most powerful verses in the Bible on prayer comes from Jeremiah 33:3, “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and incomprehensible things you do not know.” (CSB).
To His children God is saying something very important. Call to me, pray to me, and I will answer. This is a promise. He will answer you. We may not always like the answer, we may be told to wait. But know this, when you call out to God, He will answer you.
The Psalmist Dav id knew this well. In many of his psalms and prayers he would pray and then thank God for how we will answer that prayer. He did this knowing God would answer.
So, the question for you today is this, when do you pray? Do you pray?
Fellow Christian, God wants to hear from you. Every Tuesday night at 6 p.m. we have a prayer service at Meadowbrook Baptist Church. Would you come? Join us as we spend time praying to Almighty God. Join us as we pray to our Heavenly Father.
Friends do not neglect prayer. It is just too important.
