Preliminary school student totals were announced this week with a reminder that they could change after school starts on Wednesday. A total of 1,458 students will start the 2022-2023 school year with 266 in Pre-K and first grade, 413 in intermediate (grades 2-5), 320 in junior high and 459 in high school. Connor Buchanan with McCreary Veselka Bragg & Allen P.C. (MVBA) delivered the Property Tax Collection Report. As of July 1, 2022, approximately 96.46% taxpayers have paid property taxes for 2021. His office will continue to work with taxpayers to meet these obligations in a timely manner.
Assistant Superintendent Pam Kaufmann reviewed the ESSER III Safe Return to School Plan, highlighting the process of updating this plan and reporting the findings of a staff and parent survey, including comments. The revised version of the plan will be located on the district website.
Director of Intervention, Kathy Pelzel, reported the HB 3 Goals Review discussing Yearly Target Goals and Actual Performance for measuring early childhood literacy and math progress. Pelzel also discussed the targeted professional development for teachers to address these areas.
Britina Pesak, director of CTE, reported on the College, Career and Military Readiness (CCMR) portion of HB 3. Pesak reviewed the Target Goals vs. Actual Performance, as well as the targeted professional development to support CCMR.
Superintendent Dr. Monzingo presented as part of the State of the District, the ratings for Rockdale ISD from the state as follows: District - B, High School - B, Junior High - C (Distinction in Social Studies), Intermediate/Elementary - B (Distinctions in Math, Postsecondary Readiness, and Comparative Closing the Gaps). Dr. Monzingo reviewed four new communication applications the district is implementing this year. She also stated the district was able to put $2.5 million into their fund balance and lowered the tax rate for the second year in row. She also gave reports on the technology and CTE/CCMR departments.
The high school received a grant in partnership with Temple College to add additional pathways and equipment for high school juniors and seniors. The board approved the purchase of Chromebooks and teacher computers from Dell Technologies. The board approved the Annual Investment Report for 2021-22 and adopted the Resolution of the Board.

Food services: Jillian Leslie, Alondra Pacheco, Mayra Ramirez. Custodian: Shannon Kittrell.
