At a special called meeting Monday night, the Rockdale City Council discussed the proposed 2024-2025 budget in a workshop.

The proposed budget will have a tax increase from .8015 to no higher than .85 for every $100 valuation on real estate. This increase will provide raises for the police department that are commensurate with the Milam County Sheriff’s Office a nd p r o vide incentives such as sign-on bonuses and a housing stipend. Incentives for public works employees are also in the works.

The budg et also provides o n e n ew city hall employee and one new public works position. All non-police city employees are also eligible for a merit increase up to 4%. The new Rockdale City Manager described the budget as lean but has built-in funding to use as needed.

On Monday, August 12 at the regularly scheduled council meeting the proposed budget has an opportunity to pass with a unanimous vote of seven counting Mayor Ward Roddam under the city charter.
