CORRECTION: Thanksgiving lunch set for Saturday
The 24th annual Community Outreach Thanksgiving Dinner will be held Saturday, Nov. 16, at First Baptist Church from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“We greatly appreciate any time, effort or donations you, your church, business or organization is able to bless our community with,” said organizer Pam King.
Springfield to celebrate 152nd anniversary Sunday
Springfield Missionary Baptist Church will hold its 152nd anniversary at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17.
The speaker will be Rev. A.L. Watson, Sr. from First Baptist Church in Taylor.
The church was founded in 1872 by a small group of people under the leadership of two men, D. Tucker and J. Kendall.
In 1882, Springfield obtained land to build a church which is where the current church stands.
In 2006 the church received a histor ical marker from the Texas Historical Commission.
Current pastor is Rev. Rodney Geter.
Alcoa retirees meet December 12th
Rockdale Alcoa Retirees will hold their next meeting on Thursday, Dec. 12, at Thorndale Veterans Memorial Hall (formerly the VFW Hall).
Doors open at 5 p.m. with a business meeting at 5:45 p.m. A turkey and dressing meal will be $15. All members are asked to bring a dessert.
Attendees are asked to bring canned goods for the Christmas Food Drive.
