Candidates night ahead April 18th
A Meet the Candidates night for the public to become familiar with candidates on the May city and school elections ballots is set for 6 p.m. April 18 at VFW Post 6525.
It is sponsored by the post and its auxiliary, according to Rod Roderick, spokesman.
VFW Post 6525 is located at 978 West US 79.
Candidates in contested races, in alphabetical order, are:
Mayor—John King, Neil Switkowski.
Council, east ward— Joyce Dalley, Michelle Larkin.
Council, west ward— Nathan Bland, Belinda Hillhouse.
School board, place 3—Amy Ogea Casas, Jillian McEntarffer.
City voters will also decide the fate of several amendments proposed for the city charter.
Legion tries again for turkey shoot Sunday
After last Sunday’s American Legion Turkey Shoot was canceled due to the weather, it’s been rescheduled for this Sunday, April 15, at the post home, 2534 North FM 487.
Food and drinks are available at 11 a.m. with shooting beginning at noon.
Cost is $5 per round with 12 shooters per round. Winners get 50 percent of each round’s take.
Maximum barrel length is 32 inches, including the choke. No super full or extra full chokes.
