Perry & Perry Builders will be doing a test lift of The 1895’s Bell Tower on Friday, Dec. 22. During the test, the bell tower’s spiral staircase will be inserted from below and welded into place, while a final weight of the bell tower will be obtained. This final weight will be communicated to the project engineers to verify if Vision Rockdale will need to increase the number of steel support beams being installed into the roof of The 1895.
After the holidays, the front portion of The 1895 roof, about 20%, will be removed for steel beam supports for the bell tower to be installed. Installation of windows and doors on the front facade of the building will also begin in January.
The official lift of the bell tower re-crowning The 1895 will occur in February (exact date to be determined) once the roof support beam work is completed. New roof trusses to raise the roof height to the original gabled-hipped roof line and new metal roofing will be installed when the bell tower placement is complete. Brick masons will return to complete the two turrets after the bell tower placement.
Interested parties are welcome to observe, but for everyone’s safety, please view from across the highway. An estimated time of the test lift will be posted to the Vision Rockdale Facebook on Friday.
