The Milam County Railroad Museum is inviting kids 13 years of age or older, which includes kid-like adults, who would like to be a part of reassembling Old Town Cameron.
Meetings will be held at the new museum three Saturdays in May. This is a chance to get hands-on practice in the skills that will help the museum create miniature hills and valleys, lay track and track ballast.
Attendees will also work with electrical wire, paint, grasses and invasive plants to create ponds, creeks and rivers and miniature trees.
There will be three “Prebuild” class sessions. Classes will be on three consecutive Saturdays, May 6, May 13 and May 20 at the Railroad Museum, 110 W. First Street in Cameron.
Enter through the Milam County Historical Museum next door. The practice classes will be about three hours long and each class session will cover a different topic.
Once finished kids and adults will have had handson skill practice on everything that will help rebuild Old Town Cameron in June.
When t he museum reopens volunteers will be needed to share the story of Old Town Cameron and the railroad history of Milam County. There will be an adult model railroad club and a Jr. Engineer Club with activities and opportunities for everyone.
Club members will learn advanced techniques in modeling all scales of railroads.
“Great museums have enthusiastic volunteers who enjoy sharing knowledge with others. The only thing we ask is that everyone have fun, make new friends, learn something new and enjoy the pleasure of supporting one of Milam County’s most popular tourist venues. Come join our great team and share our story with visitors,” said Jamie Larson, museum director.
