Saturday’s 23rd annual MARC Ride had 79 entrants with 100 riders and set a new record raising $56,891 with more money promised to come in this week. About $22,000 of the total came from the live auction with auctioneer John Fisher. A grand total over the 23 years comes to $491,176 raised.
The MARC Board uses this money for summer camp for the consumers as well as maintaining the building on Pecos Avenue. Board President Ann King said, “The money raised pays for the consumers to participate in Five Days of Fun, trips to the Blue Bell factory in Brenham, bowling, the Texas Ranger Museum, movies and shopping, van insurance, bowling twice per month in Temple and monthly social activities.”
The day started at The Ranch with MARC Board members making barbecue lunches in assembly line style. Four hundred pounds of brisket were cooked by Kathy Quinney, and all the sides were made by many volunteers..
The riders left The Ranch at 11 a.m. and drove by the MARC Center where the consumers greeted them with cheers and handmade signs. Other stops along the way included Cyndi’s Hawg Hang Out in Hogg, Cliff’s Tavern and VFW Post 6525.
The live auction began at 4 p.m. and there was also a 50/50 drawing as well as a meal for the riders.
