Rockdale’s Regeneration Singers, about 30 of them at least, will be the musical act at this weekend’s homecoming festivities.
The group was started in 1969 by Ken Baxter, Minister of Music at Meadowbrook Baptist Church. Arnold Sherman took over leadership of the group in the spring of 1970 and the group ran until the spring of 1977.
“In its prime, over 100 high school students participated in Regeneration Singers with a total of about 500 students in the spring productions either on stage, playing an instrument or in “the pit,” working backstage or ushering,” Sherman said.
Rockdale Homecoming Association will host the 88th gathering of all current and previous citizens and businesses of Rockdale on June 12 at the Patterson Civic Center.
This year’s honorees are Rainbow Courts and the McKinney family. Founded in 1918, Rainbow Courts is now a Recorded Historic Landmark and is still family owned and operated.
