The Milam and Burleson Counties Groundwater Summit is nearing its date of Aug. 12.
Robert Mace, the executive director and chief water policy officer at The Meadows Center for Water and the Environment and a professor in the Department of Geography at Texas State University in San Marcos, will be on the Groundwater Modeling Panel. The panel will explore the reliability of the new Groundwater Availability Model with respect to the previously predicted, the realized impacts and the effects on the water levels in the aquifers of the district, from production from the Vista Ridge Well field.
State Rep. Terry M. Wilson, R-District 20, is the lunchtime keynote speaker. He will discuss issues from this past legislative session affecting his district, as well as topics of continuing and future concerns, including property rights and groundwater.
The groundwater district will also kick off free water quality sampling campaign at this year’s summit. To participate, pick up a sampling packet at the AgriLife Extension offices in either Burleson or Milam counties between Aug. 9 and 11. Samples must then be dropped off Aug. 9, 10, or 11 between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the Burleson or Milam county AgriLife Extension offices or at the Milam and Burleson County Groundwater Summit on Aug. 12 at the Caldwell Civic Center.
Make sure you collect the sample the same day that you drop it off. Easy to follow instructions will be provided. Post Oak Savannah GCD is sponsoring this campaign in partnership with the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension offices in Burleson and Milam counties, as well as the Texas Water Resource Institute and Texas Well Owner’s Network.
The summit is free to all with lunch provided. It will be held at the Caldwell Civic Center at 103 W. Hwy. 21 in Caldwell from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
