Two new employees have recently joined the staff at The Rockdale Reporter.
Wynton Thomason was welcomed to the newsroom in July and Cassidy Paschall was welcomed to the ad sales staff in September.
SPORTS—Thomason was raised in Rockdale and graduated from Milano High School. He is the son of Lee “Sparky” and Leah Thoma-son of Rockdale.
He graduated from University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio in 2015 with a degree in communications and an emphasis in journalism. He has worked at the San Antonio Express-News as an editorial assistant and ZACH Theater in Austin as social media manager.
Thomason has enjoyed being back home and taking on the responsibility of the sports page.
“This was a great opportunity,” Thomason said. “In Austin the job market is very competitive and there’s not nearly as many suitable jobs. Plus, I like the free meals I’m getting at home and watching Hulu on a 32-inch screen and not my laptop.”
“Seriously, I like working here with Shannon (Whorton), Kelley (Zapata), Cassidy (Paschall) and Cliff (Dungan), who’s always entertaining,” he said. “And Mike always has something interesting to say. I don’t think I’ll ever quite understand him though.”
Mike Brown, Reporter editor said: “Wynton has an enthusiasm for, and a knowledge of, all sports. He’s eager to learn, to contribute and to get out and work with the many people you need to contact every week to cover sports in the Rockdale area. He’s already shown skill with sports photos and we are looking forward to great things from him in the future.”
Thomason will cover sports and community events for The Reporter.
AD SALES—Paschall joined the ad sales staff following a long stint working for Lowe’s in Austin and Pennsylvania.
She is married to Lee Jay Paschall and they have three children Logan, Parker and Ross, who attend Rockdale’s junior high, intermediate and elementary schools respectively.
She was born in Jonestown, Texas, and raised in Pennsylvania, outside of Philadelphia. Paschall began working at Lowe’s in 2009 in Marble Falls as a cashier. She was promoted to manager in eight months. In Pennsylvania, she was assistant store manager of operations.
“Having the opportunity to work for The Reporter was not something I was expecting to do when I moved to the area,” she said. “When I heard about the possibility of being a part of a long lasting family business and working with an excellent team, I was excited to start a new venture. I have enjoyed learning about the newspaper business as well as meeting new people in the community.”
Brown said: “Cassidy has shown that she wants to knuckle down and get to work and that’s the largest part of this job,”
“She has learned very quickly and is already out there becoming a part of the Rockdale business community,” he added. “She’s been a great representative for The Reporter, knows what her job is and is dedicated to doing her best every day.”
Paschall set high goals for the future.
“In the future, I want to be a part of growing this paper to include more sections, more pages and extra space for more of the news everyone looks for. I look forward to the challenge,” she said.
