Rockdale High School Principal Tiffany Commerford-Whitsel is leaving her post at the end of the semester.

School trustees, meeting in regular session last Wednesday, heard that Supt. Dr. Denise Monzingo has accepted Whitsel’s resignation, effective Friday, Dec. 20, which is the final day of classes before the holiday break.

She has accepted a position of executive director of secondary education for the Waco Independent School District.

Whitsel became principal in June, 2014.

PERSONNEL—Also last Wednesday, Supt. Dr. Denise Monzingo advised she had also accepted resignations from junior-high teacher-coach Mitchell Flores and junior-high teacher Cody Liles.

ADDITIONAL DAYS– Assistant Supt. Pam Kauffman reviewed the Additional Days School Year Provision, a TEA recommendation which would provide school districts with a half-day of funding to schools offering up to 30 additional days for students in pre-K through fifth grade. It was a presentation only and not an indicator that the district is considering the change as an option.

SUPERIOR–RISD’s Director of Finance Genella Korenek also informed trustees that the district received a “superior” rating for financial accountability. The state rating is based off of a district’s ability to manage their own financial resources.

FOOD SERVICE– The Rockdale ISD Food Service Staff was also recognized at the meeting.

At Thanksgiving break, it had served 48,014 breakfasts, 73,668 lunches and 6,904 dinners this term.

EXTRACURRICULAR–RHS Director of Bands Adrian Acevedo informed the board of the Big Blue Band’s accomplishments such as advancing to the area competition.

Both RHS cross country teams were also recognized. Nine runners qualified for regionals and one for the state meet.
