RISD REPORT

Rockdale High School Principal Tiffany Whitsel, has two special opportunities for students on her campus that she would like to share with you.

RHS has the spotlight this week:

ELECTION—Rockdale High School was invited to select eligible students to serve as poll workers on Election Day Nov. 6.

Student poll workers learn firsthand how elections are run, and provide much needed support at polling locations.

They end their day with a better understanding of the importance of voting and the vital role poll workers play in making our elections run smoothly.

Officials may assign up to five high school students to serve as poll workers in each election precinct.

Students work under the direct supervision of appointed adult poll workers.

Rockdale High School students were selected to serve as election workers for the general election.

Students assisted with both the early voting beginning on Oct, 22 as well as election day voting.

VETERANS DAY—Veterans Day is a day when citizens of our nation stop and think about the service of countless individuals that have sacrificed so much for so many.

Thursday, Rockdale ISD honored our local Veterans during a ceremony at the Rockdale High School Gym.

Many students and organizations took part in the ceremony, but we are especially proud of the RHS students who took part in the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Voice of Democracy contest.

The students wrote an original 3-5 minute essay on “Why My Vote Matters”.

Students recorded the essay on DVD and then submitted it with written copy to the VFW.

KRXT radio station helped students record their DVD. Th winning speech was read by its author Lillian Phillips at the Veterans Day ceremony as well as being entered in the district VFW competition.
