The City of Rockdale is excited to welcome Lisa Riggs as the new Library Director of the Lucy Hill Patterson Memorial Library. Her first day on the job in Rockdale was April 14.
Lisa’s journey into the library world began with a passion for fostering a love of reading in children, starting as a volunteer in her own children’s school libraries. After moving to Hutto, she joined the Hutto Public Library as a Library Assistant, where she led preschool story times focused on early literacy and coordinated a successful Summer Reading Program to keep young readers engaged during the break.
“I am passionate about creating dynamic programming for all ages,” Riggs said. “From STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) activities to author visits and community events, I enjoy finding creative ways to connect people with information and one another.” As a library professional, she previously launched a teen volunteer program that included about 50 teens, who mentored younger children through a Book Buddy Program, and helped lead children's events throughout a whole summer.
'Lisa, as she asks to be called, brings this same energy and commitment to Rockdale, with hopes to recreate and grow these kinds of programs at the Rockdale Library,' said City Manager Tim Kelty.
“The Lucy Hill Patterson Memorial Library is a beautiful and welcoming space, dedicated to providing the services Rockdale residents want and need. Our mission is to nurture a love of reading and lifelong learning while becoming the city’s central hub — a place for community connection, enrichment, and access to information,” Riggs said.
Residents are encouraged to stop by the library and meet the city’s newest addition and welcome Lisa to the Rockdale community.
