Rockdale ISD, in compliance with Texas Education Agency requirements and RISD board policy, has set its policies and procedures for credit-by-exam for acceleration in grades K-12.
Students and parents who want to consider an accelerated progression through school should visit with the campus principal or counselor.
Test dates for the 2019-2020 school year and application deadlines have been scheduled as follows: November 21 and 22 (Oct. 31 deadline), March 26 and 27, 2020 (Feb. 28 deadline), May 20 and 21 (April 24 deadline), and Aug. 6 and 7 (July 1 deadline).
If a student plans to take an exam, they must be registered by the deadlines. Contact campus principals or counselors for more information.
On all campuses, specific criteria must be met. Students must achieve a certain score(s) on criterion-referenced exams. In addition, the student’s parent or guardian must give written approval of the proposed accleerati0on and the campus principal must also agree.
In grades K-5, the student must score 80 percent of above on exams for the grade level to be skipped in the following areas: language arts, mathematics, science and social studies.
In grades 6-12, the student can receive credit for an academic subject in which the student has received no prior instruction if the student scores a 3 or higher on a college board advanced-placement exam that has been approved by the board for the applicable course. A scaled score of 50 or higher on an exam administered through the College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) and approved by the board for the rest of the applicable course; or 80% or above on any other test approved by the board.
Students scoring 80% or better will receive that exam score as the course grade on their academic record.
