Assistant Superintendent Pam Kaufmann and Rockdale ISD principals presented overviews of their objectives for the 2019-2020 school year Monday as the school board met in regular monthly session.

RHS principal Tiffany Whitsel said her focus was on continuing to improve English scores at her campus.

“We’ve improved at English since I’ve been here,” Whitsel said. “But I don’t want to stop focusing on it just because we got it where I want it.

“I feel like it’s an area where we can continue to improve.”

Trustees also joined different boards and council with association to RISD.

Wenda Dyer will serve as the trustee representative on Rockdale’s School Health Advisory Council, Raymon Puente will serve on the calendar committee, and members Amy Casas and Charles Miles will serve on the district education council. RISD school board president Troy Zinn will be a part of the threat assessment team.

THREAT TEAM—The passage of Texas Senate Bill 11 requires that every school district in the state assemble a threat assessment team to serve each campus.

Threat assessment teams provide a pro-active, evidence-based approach for identifying individuals who may pose a threat to student and employee safety. The team must also be pro-active in terms of providing interventions before a violent incident occurs.

The board approved a threat assessment team made up of the RISD community relations director, and all assistant principals, counselors and district registered nurses.

PERSONNEL—Trustees approved the hiring of Dr. Joy Beckendorf as a high school chemistry teacher and Lori Powell and Robin Heintze as instructional aides at the Intermediate School.

RISD also approved hiring Cherry LeBreck-Kerlin, Linwood Parker and Sandra Smith as bus drivers and Tangelia Arnold as bus monitor.

Trustees also received resignations from a T. J. Lawrence in the maintenance department and bus driver Lucretia Henderson.
