Rising Star Baptist Church celebrated their 112th anniversary and homecoming Sept. 15 with over 125 in attendance for the worship service and meal. The church was organized in Tracey in 1907 and the building was moved to Rockdale in 1963. The new church was remodeled and completed September 2012. The celebration was sponsored and coordinated by the Davis Family (pictured) descendants of Edgar and Alice Davis who were longtime members of Rising Star. The family gave special tribute to Bessie Davis their family matriarch and active member of Rising Star. A number of the Davis family are graduates of Aycock and Rockdale high schools. This year’s guest minister Rev. Charles R. Terry is a descendant of J.D. and Maxine Terry, longtime members of Rising Star. Rev. Terry is a 1966 graduate of Rockdale High School.
