A full house gave standing ovations and laughter in response to plays presented by Rising Star Baptist Church’s Fine Arts Ministry Saturday evening.
The faith-based plays were written and directed by Stanley Miller and co-directed by Joyce Ford.
The first, “The Life of Emma Pearl,” saw Lula Rivers in the feature role with Miller as her brother and Ford as her son.
Narrator with Lyz Stevens with Ernest Russell as Pastor Skillet, Renay Boyd as Sister Wanda; Lawyer, Liz Johnson; Branden Boyd, grandson; granddaughter, Jernee’ Boyd; daughter, MaKayla Washington.
Second presentation, “The Burial of Ol’ Jack Devil,” starred Ms. Ford again as Ol’ Jack Devil’s Girlfriend; Miller as Jack Devil’s brother; Stevens as Jack’s mother; Russell as Pastor Skillet; pall bearers Makayla Washington and Quentin Hughes; Imp, Bryson Johnson; church ladies, JoAnn Bradford, Freddie Robertson, Mary Ware, Bessie Davis and Von Henderson.
Music was provided by Andre Johnson and the benediction and thanks to the audience was offered by Rev. Royal Johnson, pastor of Rising Star.
