After a strong showing in April, the May sales tax returns dropped in Rockdale, but spending is still ahead of the year-to-date 2020 take, according to figures released by the state’s comptroller’s office.
Other towns in Milam County are also ahead of where they were last year on the sales tax report.
Milano is posting the strongest comeback this year with a rate of improvement at almost 31% higher than last year at this time.
Thorndale numbers are still ahead of last year’s figures, but is building at a slow er pace than the rest of the towns in the county.
This year Caldwell continues to lag behind last year’s COVID-19 devastated economy with numbers at almost 11% lower so far this year.
Milam County also is still behind last year’s number overall at negative 20%.
But it is in Lee County were the numbers are way down. The county is overall at a negative 64% this year compared to last year’s sale tax amount.
Lexington in Lee County is recovering with a year-todate percent at almost 15% over the past year.
