The Rockdale Independent School District started their new school year Monday night in the high school conference room listenting to reports on debt collection, finances, changes to district handbooks and status updates from campus principals.

Connor Buchanan with McCreary Veselka Bragg & Allen, P.C. told the board the the cumulative tax collections for 2020 are at 95.52%.

An overview of the Rockdale ISD Teacher Incentive Allotment Plan was presented by Dell Giles, the district’s literacy and mentoring coordinator.

The plan is for teachers to work toward rankings from National Board Certification which was designed to develop, retain and recognize accomplished teachers and to generate ongoing improvement in schools nationwide.

Teachers could sign up for study to achieve rankings of recognized, mastery and exemplary, Giles said.

There is a cost associated with the study and how that would be worked out is up to the board to determine.

The program is intense and self-paced, but would require at least of year’s worth of work by teachers who decide to join it if the Rockdale ISD decided to participate.

The board also approved the June and July financial reports.

The Rockdale ISD Student Handbook was reviewed to highlight changes included revisions to human sexuality instruction; parents and visitors must have permission to record or take still images of classroom activities; parent’s rights to examine instructional materials and updates to CTE program provisions.
