Aaron Avila, 20, Rockdale, was killed in a two-vehicle accident at approximately 10 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 23, on US 79 west in front of Walmart.
The preliminary investigation shows that Avila, who was eastbound, crossed into the center lane and hit a westbound vehicle driven by Fred Hanart, 43, Rockdale, who was waiting to make a left-hand turn into the Walmart parking lot, according to Rockdale Police Chief Jerry Meadors.
Avila was transported by AMR to Scott & White in Temple where he was pronounced dead.
Hanart and Clayton Merka, 31, Rockdale, were transported by AMR to Seton Williamson in Round Rock where Hanart was listed in critical condition. Merka was treated for minor injuries and released.
Cause and factors contributing to this crash remain under investigation, Meadors said.
