It’s the same refrain sales tax figures have been singing since the COVID-19 Pandemic hit.

We’re going to have to wait at least another month to see sales tax receipts plummet, if they do, because of the Pandemic.

July sales taxes figures showed every county in the area stayed in the positive bracket through the first half of the year. Only one Milam city (Cameron) recorded a “minus” reading through July and it was in the low single digits (-3.17).

Those figures reflect taxes collected in May— for businesses who report monthly—and reported in June, according to Comptroller Glen Hegar.

They should be reflecting the big downturn in the economy which began in April.

But sales tax figures for the year continue to show an increase for Rockdale, Milam County and the Rockdale Municipal Development District (MDD).

CITY—Rockdale’s July check is $70,957, a 13.05-percent increase from $62,761 one year ago.

That makes the year-to-date total $496,221, up 5.30 percent from $471,237 in for the same period in 2019.

Milam County’s July check was $89,708, 3.60-per-cent less than the $93,060 recorded a year ago.

But the county still comes out ahead 5.89 percent for the year, going from $786,905 to $833,273-

Rockdale Municipal Development District (MDD) is up for the month and year.

The MDD’s July check of $35,223 was up 9.02 percent from the July 2019 total of $32,307.

For the year the MDD is up 8.88 percent, going from $231,883 to $252,493.

Among Milam municipalities, only negative numbers were Cameron (down year and month) and Buckholts (down for the month).
