Rockdale native, and RHS graduate, Annie Laura Ray has written her first book.
Ray’s book, “A Thief, A Servant, A Teacher, My Story: The Hidden Journal,” the story of her life, is available pre-sale through March 31, at a price of $19.99, at annielauraray.com.
Ray, an ordained AME minister for 32 years, has been featured on newspaper, radio and magazines and will have a book launch/reception in Rockdale in May.
Ray holds a N.S.E. degree from Midwestern State University and an AA from Temple Junior College (since renamed Temple College).
She is now a resident of West Columbia and has taught communication at Columbia High School for 20 years.
The book offers personal details about her upbringing and what she terms “my rough past.”
“In the darkest moment of my life, God has been my light,” she said. “I was damaged, arrogant, envious, selfish and a thief. I was on a road of shame and disgrace. But, one by one, God changed my road and the outcome of my story. He took the journal that was hidden in me and produced his story.”
Ray continues to hold a weekly prayer line conference call to “equip and empower intercessors and prayer warriors.”
A leader in the church, community and school district, she was recipient of a Brazosport Facts Unsung Hero Award in 2010.
“I had three dreams growing up,” she said. “I wanted to be a preacher, teacher and work with the elderly.”
She accomplished them and can now add “author.”
