Rockdale City Council members voted to get four new Tahoes for the police force at Monday’s meeting in City Hall.

“They wanted six Tahoes. I would like to think about the other two for a while possibly the next council meeting,” Mayor John King said.

But the council settled on the four vehicles with one being purchased outright and the other three on a lease-option plan.

King noted that there was $57,000 or so set aside in the current budget for a new police vehicle and that leasing the other three was a good plan.

“We have enough money for that. We already had money for one vehicle in the budget and the lease payments will come in next year’s budget,” he said prior to the vote.

The council did discuss purchasing an asphalt zipper for the city, but postponed it for future discussion.

City Manager Barbara Holly reported some good news concerning the budget.

She said that some unaudited numbers showed revenue had exceeded budget expenditures and she thanked department heads for helping make that happen.

Mayor King said the numbers would be verified, however, before that money would be spent.
