The Rockdale City Council opted to remove the restriction of making a parking out of the lot behind the old City Hall in a vote at a meeting Monday night in City Hall. That vote means the Perrys, who have purchased the building and the lot behind it, do not have to put a parking lot on the land behind old City Hall.
That was fine with Collier Perry because his group, which got its 501c3 designation Oct. 12, hopes to raise the necessary funds in four years.
Before the vote, Collier told the council right now he doesn’t know what will be done with the lot or the building.
“We don’t want to buy that property with our hands tied behind our backs. If we do make it a parking lot, it will be available to the public. I mean we are not going to put up parking meters.”
The Colliers were the only bidders for the property with a bid of $100,000 and hope to raise $4 million in the next five years to not only restore the building but turn it into a profitable business venture.
Perry also said the plans to unveil a scale model of the renovated building by the end of October.
Perry called the venture a “win-win” situation for all involved.
