At Monday night’s school board meeting the board canvassed the results of the May 7 general election by approving the resolution declaring Amy Ogea Casas-Place 3, Charles Miles-Place 4 and Lindsey Lillard-Place 5 to fill the term of their respective offices for the three years ending in the month of May, 2025.
The three board members then were administered the Oath of Office. After the oath the board elected the following officers: Troy Zinn as President, Julia Cardona as Vice-President, and Amy Casas as Secretary.
The following student groups were recognized: RHS Band Solo and Ensemble students, RJH tennis, powerlifting, RHS track, RHS golf, RHS tennis and TBI/Temple College inductees into Phi Theta Kappa.
RHS CTE teachers were recognized for their role as CTE teachers with students earning industry-based certifications.
Director of Maintenance, Cody Dudley, reported on projects this past year and projected summer maintenance projects.
The District RN, Keari Spence, presented a COVID update reviewing the total number of COVID cases for RISD staff and students over the past school year, with January 2022 seeing the majority of the cases. Currently, Rockdale ISD has 1 active case that will be cleared on May 17.
The board approved changes to policy DEC (Local) which will allow staff’s local leave days to accumulate the same as state days currently do. In addition, upon retirement from the district, staff can be eligible for payment of up to 20 days of accumulated state and local leave if they meet the conditions set forth by the board.
The board approved the Resolution regarding possible donation of real property to the City of Rockdale for use by the Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department located on West Davilla Ave.
The board was informed of the following hires: Certified Personnel Hires-Probation Contracts: Peytyn O’Campo, 2nd grade teacher; Dustin Schultz, Ag Science Teacher; Jennifer Williams, intermediate school teacher; Rachel Zgabay, 8th grade social studies teacher; Nathanael Clifford, Special Education/Inclusion math teacher; Antione Lister, 7th grade math teacher.
Certified Personnel Hires-Dual/Probation Contracts: Danielle Froggatt, 8th grade math teacher/coach; Kyle Tidwell, PE teacher/coach.
