THORNDALE — A Rockdale teenager was killed Saturday morning in a one-vehicle accident on US 79 just inside the eastern Thorndale city limits.
Brandon Lopez, 16, was pronounced dead following the 9:04 a.m. crash on US 79 by Pct. 4 Justice of the Peace Gary Northcott.
Witnesses told investigators a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed left the highway, hit two culverts and came to rest in the parking lot of the Iron Horse Bar & Grill.
The accident is still under investigation by the Thorndale Police Department.
A funeral service is set for 10 a.m. Thursday at Providence Funeral Home in Taylor. Visitation at 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in the same location.
The death is the sixth on Milam County roads this year and the first since three persons, all of them Rockdale residents, died in an 11-day stretch in April.
