Have you missed your daily workout on the Tiger Field track since they built that new $5-million facility?
You’ll have to find another excuse not to exercise after Monday, Jan. 7. That’s the day the new track will open to the public.
“We appreciate everyone bearing with us,” Supt. Dr. Denise Monzingo said. “We’ve gotten lots of calls asking when the public will be able to use the track. We just weren’t able to do that while the whole area was a construction zone.”
ENTRANCE—But that phase is passing and the facility will open for public use on the first day back from the holiday break.
Here’s how it works.
Access will be at the complex’s southeast gate on Miller Street. That’s more commonly called the “visitors’ entrance.”
Once you walk toward the scoreboard, turn right onto a sidewalk and to the track access gate just before you get to the visitor stands.
After that, it’s round and round as much as you want.
School officials are asking patrons to make an effort to use the outside lanes as much as possible.
“The inside lanes get the most use,” she said. “The more we can get even usage out of all the lanes, the less we will have to repair, or replace, lanes in the future.”
MANNERS—And it should go without saying runners and walkers are expected to behave themselves and not willfully damage the track, or anything else at the gleaming new facility.”
“We do have security cameras so we will be able to identify any acts of vandalism,” Dr. Monzingo said.
“Obviously we hope that’s not ever needed.”
“We are excited about racing this point, where the community can utilize this wonderful new facility,” she said.
The football field was first used Oct. 5 as Big Blue hosted Manor New Tech.
