Milam County Precinct 1 voters have some unfinished business left over from March 3 Republican Primary, but they will finish taking care of it Tuesday.
Incumbent Pct. 1 Commissioner Richard “Opey” Watkins and challenger Henry “Hub” Hubnik are the runoff candidates.
Hubnik led Watkins 577-456 on March 3. Rick McCall, third candidate in the race, polled 147.
The winner does not face Democratic opposition in November.
EARLY VOTING—Early voting in both Republican and Democratic Runoffs ends on Friday. Locations are the same as
Locations are the same as on Tuesday (see box). Hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Cameron, 9 to 4 in the other three locations.
A total of 1,099 early votes were case through Tuesday.
Voters may cast a ballot in any location. But those who voted in a party primary in March may not vote in the other party’s primary.
CONGRESS—There are a number of statewide and district-wide contests to be decided in the runoffs.
Milam voters will help decide the general election candidates in both parties for District 17 U. S. Representative.
Pete Sessions and Renee Swann are vying on the Republican ballot while the Democratic candidates are David Anthony Jaramillo and Rick Kennedy.
The winners will face off in November to replace Republican Bill Flores, who is retiring.
STATEWIDE—There are a couple of statewide Democratic ballot runoffs.
Mary “M.J.” Hegar and Royce West are vying for the chance to oppose Republican U. S. Sen. John Cornyn in November.
Democratic candidates for Railroad Commissioner are Roberto “Beto” Alonzo and Chrysta Castañeda.
