The city’s parks board hired a certified arborist to assess the damage to this over 250-year-old tree, but the company reported that the tree cannot be saved because it is decayed in the center. The tree is now a danger to people who visit Sumuel Park as well as residents who live nearby. The tree will have to be cut down, but there are plans for using the wood as well as for a replacement tree.
