CAMERON—Milam County commissioners, meeting Monday in regular session, heard County Judge Steve Young report Korean high-tech giant is eyeing a solar farm being developed in northern Milam County.
Young told commissioners Samsung representatives had been in his office to convey their interest in buying the 5,000-acre Ben Milam project near Burlington.
Young emphasized no decision had yet been made by Samsung.
“I told them ‘we’re happy to have you in the county. We want you in the county and we will do whatever we can to make you happy in this county’,” he said.
If Samsung does come into Milam it will be the third major high-tech firm to have a presence in Milam.
Bitmain is cryptocurrency mining in the former Alcoa Rockdale Operations smelter and Whinstone is constructing what could become the world’s largest Bitcoin-only mining facility on Alcoa property just north of the smelter.
Young said he believed the Samsung representatives were so impressed with the site they indicated the company “wouldn’t go” to a Bell County site in which they had been interested, preferring Milam.
In other business, the court heard the annual AgriLife Extension report in which Dr. Donald Kelm praised the job performances of Milam County Agents Floyd Ingram and Micah Holcombe.
