Cruz San Migel (Rockdale High School) and Madison Masek (Thorndale High School), incoming juniors, have been selected to attend RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Award) Camp.

The RYLA program is an intensive training experience for incoming juniors and seniors. This is a co-ed camp held at Peaceable Kingdom in Killeen July 17-22. Fifty boys and girls are selected from 60 Rotary clubs in District 5870 in Central Texas.

“Camp RYLA provides an opportunity to exchange ideas, opinions and beliefs with other students in a relaxed, retreat style setting. They are encouraged to tear down the walls by trying new things and exploring new roles. They will develop new friendships and become a more effective role model, team player and leader. They will explore and develop leadership skills through problem solving and team building,” said Gaye Bland, RYLA scholarship chairman.

“These campers are proudly sponsored by the Rockdale Rotary Club as a way to support leadership development in our community,” Bland added.

Applications for camp in 2023 will be available for incoming sophomores and juniors from Rockdale, Milano and Thorndale in February 2023. Each school will have the information along with posts on our Facebook page and in The Rockdale Reporter.
