Area officials are cautioning Milam County residents about a scam after phony letters asking for money to facilitate a “designation of homestead request.”
That’s actually a free service.
According to Cameron Police Sgt. Kris Stringer, several residents have reported receiving a letter regarding a “Milam Designation of Homestead Request.” Officials said the letter appears to seek money and information from residents.
Stringer said this is a scam and residents should not return the form or send in money.
He urged anyone receiving the letter to simply throw it away.
