As if Rockdale residents didn’t have enough reasons to be anxious.

A frightening looking thunderstorm rumbled through town on Thursday afternoon, blowing down trees and briefly turning many streets into streams.

The storm, associated with the first of two cold fronts during the past week, brewed up about 3:30 p.m., with darkness and enough lightning and thunder to rattle the crockery in the kitchen.

A member of the public called to report a funnel cloud in the FM 1786 area and Rockdale volunteer firefighters were dispatched.

RVFD members could not confirm the sighting.

What everybody in Rockdale could confirm were brief heavy rains and high winds.

It was over half an hour. Just .75 inch of rain was recorded officially.
