At Monday night’s RISD School Board meeting, Assistant Superintendent Pam Kaufmann, delivered the Back-to-School Update and a report covering enrollment, athletic and band participation numbers, and the attendance initiative. Director of Communications Rebecca King, reported on the district’s Communication Department. The district had two large projects this past summer that launched for the new school year. A new website was developed and a new parent communication platform, ParentSquare, was implemented.

Transportation Director Robert Hunter reported that the extended walk zone from the beginning of the year is now on a bus route. He also stated that Smart Tag is up and running. The Parent Portal should be ready by the end of the month. The portal will allow parents to login and see their child’s location while on the bus.

The board approved the 2022-2023 School Health Advisory Committee (SHAC) that will meet four times throughout the school year.

Chief Financial Officer Deidra Hall reported August’s Financial Report which included large purchases of Chromebooks, two 72” mowers and additional security cameras for identifi ed blind spots in the district.

The board adopted the 2022 tax rate as follows: Maintenance and Operation tax rate of $0.9429 and Interest and Sinking tax rate of $0.3619 for a total 2022 tax rate of $1.3048. This rate is $0.0174 less than last year’s rate, but due to increased appraisal values, will raise more tax revenues for maintenance and operations than last year’s tax rate.
