School enrollments are holding steady in South Milam County.

Most chose in-person classes but some are learning online.

Total enrollment in the Rockdale ISD last week was 1,483, down 10 from last year’s total of 1,493 students.

“Rockdale ISD teachers, administrators, and support staff have worked tirelessly over the past few months planning and implementing an instructional and extracurricular program for our students that ensures the safety and progress of each individual child,” Supt. Dr. Denise Monzingo wrote in an email.

“We appreciate the support we have received from parents, community members, and local leaders,” she added.

In Thorndale, Superintendent Adam Ivy noted that enrollment numbers were up this year over the past school year.

More than 575 students are enrolled, compared to around 545 last year.

“Every kid was ready to come back. There is no substitute for personal instruction,” Ivy said.

In Milano, the number of students dropped from last year’s total.

The district reported 403 students enrolled in the district this year which is under last year’s enrollment of 435 students.
