Milam County Retired School Personnel Association (MCRSPA) members collected school supplies for all of the schools in Milam County and Caldwell ISD.

They delivered a box of school supplies, including teacher necessities to each school in the county and all the schools in Caldwell ISD. In addition, MCRSPA built special supply bags for 27 Milam County rookie teachers and support staff.

“One might think that school employees would simply fade off into the sunset after completing a career in teaching, bus driving, cooking in the cafeteria or as a janitor cleaning up after kids,” said Jamie Larson, spokesperson “That’s not the case in Milam County.”

One group of Milano Senior Citizens joined the retirees and helped collect supplies for their Milano teachers.

Fifteen retirees met in the Perry Community Room on Main Street in Rockdale on Thursday, Aug. 15. Oak Leaf Bakery & Diner catered the event.

The group discussed its annual “Fall Movie Night” at the Kay Theater on Sept. 17, 7 p.m.

The movie will be “The Man Who Knew Too Much” directed by Alfred Hitchcock. It features Jimmy Stewart and Doris Day.

Milam County Retired School Personnel members also volunteer thousands of hours to various organizations, schools, civic clubs, and historical societies. Many also volunteer in nursing homes and help their neighbors.

The Texas Retirement System reported that there are over 400 TRS pension recipients in Milam County, according to Larson.
