THORNDALE—School trustees in the Thorndale ISD are mulling what their next step will be in upgrading campus security in light of the failure of all three bond proposals May 5.

The packages included additional security provisions in a general re-structuring of the TISD campus that included a new high school.

“We need to continue to find other ways to increase safety and limit access to our campuses,” Supt. Adam Ivy told trustees last Tuesday.

PORTABLES—“One of the possibilities is to move the elementary portable buildings to a location in between the elementary and middle school gym,” he said.

“That would bring those students closer to the main campus, cafeteria and other facilities,” Ivy said.

Ivy said estimated cost to move the portables is $16,000.

“That’s only the cost of moving the buildings,” he said. “That does not include any plumbing, electrical work, sidewalks or awnings.

Trustees inquired about the cost of new buildings, then directed Ivy to obtain those numbers as well as as getting more firm numbers for a relocation.

BOND VOTE—Proposition A ($9,870,000), included the new high school, also included a new secure entry for the elementary school, along with a new connecting corridor to the cafeteria.

It failed 272-236.

The other propositions were also rejected.

Proposition B ($2,390,000) would have expanded and renovated the current band hall, plus more renovations including adding heating/AC to areas. It went down 260-246.

Proposition C ($680,000) would have resurfaced the TISD track and added parking. It was rejected 280-227.

It’s the second time in a year Thorndale ISD voters have turned down a bond proposal.

In May, 2017, voters defeated a $12.5-million proposal 229-168.
