A 52-year-old Rockdale man received serious injuries Sunday when he was struck by a pickup at a local convenience store.

Lt. Stephen Goodrich said Darnell Benson was rushed to Seton Williamson Hospital in Round Rock after he was hit by the pickup driven by Shamsher Gill, 56, of Rockdale at Gills’ Shop-N-Go.

Goodrich said it was believed Benson sustained two broken legs.

“It appears the truck slipped gears,” Goodrich said. He said no criminal charges will be fi led in connection with the incident.

ACCIDENTS—Police were called to a two-vehicle collision at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Walmart.

Drivers were listed as Daniel Townsend of Midland, Michigan, and James Mayberry of Rockdale.

Damages were termed minor to both vehicles.

Minor damages were also reported at 1:59 p.m. Sunday in a two-vehicle collision at The Ranch.

Drivers were listed as Alejandro Rivera of Rock-dale and Richard Frias of Taylor.

DRUG ARREST—One felony arrest was reported in Rockdale during the past week.

Lt. Goodrich said Sgt. Jody Tillery made an arrest involving meth after a traffi c stop.

Thomas Wesley Owens, 27, Bryan, was charged with possession of a controlled substance (less than one gram). He remains in custody on $4,000 bond.

OFFENSES—Incident reports listed by police during the last week included theft, assault possession of marijuana, identity theft, animal bite and several traffi c offenses.

CITATIONS—Police issued 33 speeding tickets during the past week.

Other traffi c tickets included four for expired registration, two for no liability insurance and one each for failure to report change of name/address and displaying wrong or fi ctitious license plate.

Two citations each were issued for animal at large and no rabies vaccination.

SERVICE CALLS— Offi cers responded to 196 total calls for service during the past week and 113 calls were received through the 911 system.
