Rockdale’s sesquicentennial celebration came to a close on Sunday at Veterans Park with free swimming, a water slide, dunking booth, cupcakes and a concert by the Communities in Concert band.
Friday was another busy day at the library as six more local authors were set up for book signings including Tamara Powell, Shari Seifert, Susan Cole, Nathan Bryan, Kristie Self and Martha Wells. The coffee sponsor was the Rockdale Historical Society. Geri Burnett also gave a presentation about Dr. Lucile Estell’s book Images of Rockdale. Friday ended with a concert by The Fallback Plan at the Kay Theater.
Saturday started with a talk in the I&GN Depot’s dining car called Rare Reptiles and Amphibians of Milam County given by biologists from Texas Parks and Wildlife and the Fort Worth Zoo.
There was a day-long Heritage Celebration at The 1895 which included live music performances by Scott D. Taylor’s Blues Band, Mariachi Los Tres Martinez and Robert Lawhon and Triple Threat with special guest Brooke Graham singing her number one hit Hello Texas.
Also on Saturday were historic walking tours of downtown buildings, yard games and sidewalk chalk as well as food trucks and face paint by local Girl Scout Troop 12345.
Saturday night featured Rockdale’s 150th birthday party and gala dinner at the KC Hall featuring Kenny Orts and No Chance.
The Kay Theater also showed The Wizard of Oz at the Kay Theater.
