CAMERON—Seven cases were handled last week in Milam County 20th District Court, including one jury trial which will see sentencing next month, according to Prosecutor Bill Torrey.
In that case, which wrapped up last Tuesday after a two-day trial, the jury returned a “guilty” verdict against Roberto Cardoza, 26, of Cameron on a charge of assault causes bodily injury family violence with previous conviction.
Sentencing by District Judge John Youngblood is scheduled for Feb. 19 in 20th District Court.
Brian Price, assistant district attorney, prosecuted the case for the state.
Torrey listed other case dispositions during the past week as follows:
• Lauren Nicole Harris, 29, New Baden, three years deferred adjudication with standard conditions of probation including successful completion of drug education and a substance abuse evaluation and the successful completion of any treatment recommended thereby, ordered to pay a $2,500 fine after pleading guilty to possession of controlled substance (less than one gram).
• Kevin Christopher Cortez, 30, Hutto, three years deferred adjudication with standard conditions of probation, was ordered to pay a $2,500 fine after pleading guilty to evading arrest with motor vehicle.
• Jessie Ray Westbrook, 25, Cameron, three years deferred adjudication with standard conditions of probation including the successful completion of drug education and substance abuse evaluation and the successful completion of any treatment recommended, ordered to pay a $2,500 fine after pleading guilty to possession of controlled substance (less than one gram)-drug free zone.
• Manuel Patrick Wallace, 17, Rockdale, two years deferred adjudication with standard conditions of probation including the successful completion of theft aversion classes, ordered to pay a $2,500 fine and restitution to the victim, in an amount to be determined, after pleading guilty to attempted debit/credit card abuse.
• Cassie Evette Mitchell, 33, Rockdale, three years deferred adjudication with standard conditions of probation including the successful completion of anger management, ordered to pay a $2,500 fine after pleading guilty to injury to child.
• Melinda Janette King, 38, Belton, five years deferred adjudication with standard conditions of probation, ordered to pay a $2,500 fine and $21,586 restitution to the victim in conjunction with her co-defendants after pleading guilty to a lesser included burglary of habitation.
