Sheriff Chris White presented awards Monday at Milam County Commissioners Court. From left: Lt. John Mendoza, Sgt. John Vargas, Lt. Bill Behler, Deputy Josh Perez, Sgt. Sam Ferguson, Jail Capt. James Pratt, Capt. Mike Clore, Jail Lt. John Torres, Jail Administrator Doug Veach, Sheriff White. During the meeting Mendoza was honored for administering life-saving aid to the victim of a motorcycle accident in Minerva and Deputy Bret Wier (not pictured) received the Commendation for Exceptional Service Award for his actions in taking a mentally unstable subject into custody and “minimizing use of force even though he was bitten by the man.” Ferguson and Vargas were promoted to sergeant, Torres to lieutenant, Clore to captain and Veach was recognized for 44 years in law enforcement.
