Sheriff: Expert says bones are animal

For almost two days there was concern a set of bones found near Rockdale might have been human.

But Sheriff Chris White said Monday morning the remains have been identified as belonging to an animal.

White said the bones “which had been exposed to the elements for quite some time” were discovered Saturday in a creek bottom near FM 908 just north of Rockdale.

He said the sheriff’s department could not identify the remains as human so they were sent to the anthropology department at Southwestern University.

“An anthropologist has confidently conclude the bones are not human, but are animal,” White said.
