Milam County Sheriff David Greene, who has served in that office for the past 10 years and is a 40-year veteran of Milam County law enforcement, continues to be hospitalized in an intensive care unit this week after suffering a major heart attack.
Greene was stricken last Tuesday while on vacation in Oregon.
His condition was listed as critical. Greene was able to be admitted to a Portland, Oregon, hospital on Thursday and his many friends in Milam County were expressing some guarded optimism that day.
As of Tuesday morning (July 2), Chief Deputy Chris White told The Reporter Greene was still in intensive care and was in “an induced coma.”
“They are working to get him off the (life support) machines,” White said. “His condition improves a little each day.”
Janell Greene, the sheriff’s wife, told White: “The doctors have encouraged me aged me to read uplifting remarks and stories to David from his friends and loved ones, so if anyone would like me to share words of comfort, support, or just fun memories, please let me know.”
Remarks and stories can be posted via Facebook at Janell White or the Milam County Sheriff’s account.
Or they may be emailed to cwhite@milamcounty.net and they will be forwarded to Mrs. Greene each day.
White added: “We have seen so much improvement this past week that it is incredible how strong Sheriff Greene is and certainly proof that there is power in prayer. We are truly witness to God’s help and healing hand during this time and we are asking for continued prayers for more healing.”
Greene fi rst served as Milam County Game Warden.
He was then elected Precinct 1 constable.
He won election as sheriff, served the fi nal nine months of an unexpired term and was sworn into a new term in January, 2009.
Greene was then re-elected twice, each time winning a contested primary race.
