Sheriff Chris White walked into Milam County Judge Steve Young’s office Monday and resigned.

White told Young he was leaving the job he was reelected to last November without opposition for personal reasons.

White left under his own accord and the decision was not tied to administrative duties, Young said.

The resignation was immediate and Judge Young appointed Chief Deputy Mike Clore to fill the vacancy. The county commission will discuss the appointment at its March 8 meeting.

White was appointed Milam County sheriff in July of 2018 after Sheriff David Greene died after suffering a heart attack in June.

White was a more than 18-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Office.

Before being appointed sheriff, White served as chief deputy, as a lieutenant and as a patrol deputy.

Clore has spent most of his 21-year law enforcement career with the Milam County Sheriff’s Department. He spent a year and three months serving as the officer in charge at West University Place, an upscale community surrounded by Houston.
