An investigation into the shooting death of a Thorn-dale resident the night of July 4, 2017, has been officially closed.
And it’s been ended without any criminal charges being filed, according to Thorndale Police Chief Martin Jackson.
Joel Simank died in Seton Williamson Hospital, Round Rock, after the late night Independence Day incident.
‘NO-BILL’—Milam County Prosecutor Bill Torrey said earlier this year a grand jury heard testimony on the case and returned a “no bill,” meaning the grand jury did not find sufficient cause for retuning an indictment.
On Friday, Police Chief Jackson told The Reporter the investigation is complete.
There had been no arrests and no criminal charges as police and Texas Rangers investigated.
Torrey said the grand jury heard testimony from a Texas Ranger in connection with the evidence and Jackson confirmed that he also testified.
SHOOTING—According to Thorndale police, the Thorndale Volunteer Fire Department, an ambulance and police were dispatched to the 200 block of South Second in that city at 11:05 p.m. for a reported shooting.
Jackson said Simank was found in the front yard of a residence and had sustained three gunshot wounds.
He was treated on the scene, then taken to the Round Rock hospital.
Jackson said reports indicated the victim went to a residence and confronted its three occupants, two adults and a minor child.
Police said an argument then ensued, ending with the shooting.
