There will be a Rockdale Fair in 2020, there just won’t be any general spectators and a lot of events have been dropped.
The COVID-affected schedule was announced during the week by the Rockdale Fair Association and, while most events won’t take place, there will be livestock shows and a queen’s contest over two weekends in October.
(The queen contest will be staged in the Kay Theatre with no spectators other than parents.) Here’s the schedule:
Saturday, October 10
8 to 10 a.m.—Baked goods items turned in at New Salem Building.
1 to 2 p.m. —Baked goods items picked up.
7:30 p.m.—Miss Rockdale Fair Queen Pageant, Kay Theater. Doors open 7 p.m. No spectators other than parents.
Wednesday, October 14
7 a.m.—Rabbits, turkeys and broilers arrive, and must be in place by 8 a.m.
8 a.m.—Rabbit exhibitors begin weighing-in, dance pavilion area.
9:30 a.m.—Rabbit show to begin under the dance pavilion. Judge will pre-sift rabbits at weigh-in and percentage of rabbits will be released.
9:30 a.m.—Turkey show judging, main show ring.
12-noon—Broiler show will begin judging in the main show ring.
No resale for rabbits, turkeys and broilers
5 p.m.—Lambs and goats may begin arriving and must be in place by 7 p.m.
7:30 p.m.—Weigh lambs, followed by goats.
5 to 7 p.m.—Ag mechanics projects arrive and must be in place by 7 p.m.
Thursday, October 15
8 a.m.—Goat show, main show ring.
12-noon—Lamb show, main show ring.
10 a.m.—Ag Mechanics judging, end of commercial heifer barn
Non placing projects released after show.
5 p.m.—Steer, swine and haltered breeding beef heifers begin arriving and must be in place by 7 p.m.
7:30 p.m.—Begin weigh-in of swine and steers.
Friday, October 16
7 a.m.—Commercial heifers begin arriving and must be in place by 9 a.m.
8 a.m.—Swine show, main show ring.
11 a.m.—Commercial heifer judging, commercial heifer barn.
12-noon—Steer show judging, main show ring, followed by breeding beef heifers. (Breeding beef heifers will be released after the show and must be out of the barn by 6 p.m.)
All sale selection cards must be turned in by 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16.
Saturday, October 17
9 a.m.—Commercial Buyers Brunch, main show ring
10:30 a.m.—Commercial Heifer Sale, show barn.
4 p.m.—Buyers reception, New Salem Building.
6 p.m.—Youth Auction Sale, followed by Baked Food and Ag Mechanics sales.
Sunday, October 18
7 to 10 a.m.—All remaining animals will be released, beginning at 7 a.m. and must be out of the barn by 10 a.m.
COVID—Each exhibitor and their immediate family will be required to sign a COVID-19 waiver release form. This form must be received prior to arriving at Fair Park.
No camping or overnight stays allowed in Fair Park. All power and water in the barbecue area will be shut off and is not for public use.
