Thursday morning was a milestone in construction of the new Rockdale Police Department.
Work crews poured the slab for the nearly 10,000 square-foot structure in the 300 block of East Cameron (US 79) at the Green Street intersection.
That ends the site preparation phase of the project and work remains on schedule for anticipated completion and occupancy next spring, according to City Manager Chris Whittaker.
TIMETABLE—The timetable submitted earlier this year by Wyatt Engineers traced the new PD project from pre-design and programming in November, 2016, to occupancy which is estimated between March 26 and April 24, 2019.
HARVEY—Ground was broken on the project Oct. 30, 2017, after an uncertain summer in which Hurricane Harvey impacted construction prices.
Gaeke Construction had bid $3,328,343 on the project, about $911,000 over the amount expected by the city.
But the city accepted that bid after Harvey’s wrath led consultants to predict skyrocketing costs in Texas.
