Milam County Judge Steve Young says a group of entrepreneurs are working toward bringing a solar farm business to the Rockdale area.
Young said he has been talking with the group since last fall and that they have identified three possible sites for the proposed project.
One location is near, but not in, the Alcoa property and the other two sites are in the Minerva area.
Young, who gave a report to county commissioners on potential economic development Monday, said all sites have access to power substations, a key in transmitting power generated by the solar farms.
A solar farm is a large scale collection of solar panels which generate power by a photovoltaic (converting light into electricity) process.
Young said the project is envisioned as 2,000 acres generating about 200 megawatts of electricity.
The judge said he has also been contacted this week by a Dallas area man who wants to bring a Bit-coin-mining operation to the area, on a smaller scale than the Bitmain project.
