The Rockdale ISD got a nice back-to-school “present” last week as the Texas Education Association issued its annual accountability ratings.

Ratings are now identical to student report cards, A-F, with numerical “grades” corresponding with the familiar letter grades.

Rockdale ISD received an 86, a strong “B.”

That’s up 12 points from the 76 (C) received by the district last year.

CAMPUSES—District campuses also received the grades with the high school getting an 81 (B), the junior-high 76 (C), the intermediate 85 (B) and the elementary 85 (B).

Two RISD campuses received a total of four “academic achievements,” awards for exceptional performance.

Rockdale High School received academic achievements in ELA/reading and social studies.

Rockdale Intermediate School received academic achievements in top 25 percent in comparative academic growth and top 25 percent in closing (performance) gaps.

GROWTH—“Rockdale ISD has always made it a priority to focus on individual student growth,” Pam Kaufmann, assistant superintendent, said.

“We are thrilled that we continue to show steady growth at the district level and at all campuses. Our staff always goes above and beyond to meet student needs,” she said.

Kaufmann said administrators and teachers will use the data from these scores to continue identifying areas we can target for additional support to students.

COUNTY—Milano (89), Cameron (86) and Gause

Buckholts, which is recovering from years of less than coveted ratings earned the only A for a Milam school district, scoring a 90.

Milano Junior-High led all the county’s campuses with a 92 (A) and had four academic achievements—ELA/reading, post-secondary readiness, top 25 percent comparative academic growth, and top 25 percent closing the gaps.
